Board of Directors in 2003 and has continued to enthusiastically support the
organization in this role. Allard began working with ETDs in 1998 when, as a
graduate student, she became interested in the documents’ role in promoting
digital libraries and improving scholarly communication. An ETD was not required at the University of
Kentucky at the time of her doctoral degree (2003), and her electronic
dissertation, which focused on ETDs, was the first approved from College of
Communication and Information. Over the
years, Allard has served on the NDLTD conference committee, membership
committee, public relations committee and executive committee. She was co-chair
of the Seventh International Symposium on Electronic Theses and Dissertations
(2004) and has helped with many others.
Allard’s current research continues to study knowledge creation and
dissemination particularly focusing on the domains of science and engineering.
Allard’s work related to information creator behavior is funded by several U.S.
federal agencies and international foundations. She has spent more than a
decade as a member of the team developing DataONE, a cyberinfrastructure for
environmental science information. Allard was a Board of Director for the
Association for Science and Technology's (ASIST) and was also a founding member
and past chair of the Special Interest Group on Digital Libraries. She
currently is a member of the Steering Committee for the Joint Conference on
Digital Libraries. Allard is one of eleven
Chancellor’s Professors at the University of Tennessee and the third Board of
Visitor’s Professor in the College of Communication & Information. |
