Within the USA, discussions related to the format of the dissertation, embargoes, giving credit where credit is due, data management, and ORCID, among other topics are prevalent. For example, during the previous year, the Futures Initiative at City University of New York (CUNY) hosted several very popular live streamed seminars/discussions, including a session on remixing the dissertation (new models, methods, and media) and another hosted discussion with ProQuest. The Council of Graduate Schools recently announced a collaboration with ProQuest to explore the future of the doctoral dissertation. The project will culminate in a workshop to be held in Washington, D.C. in January of 2016. The two-day workshop will convene graduate deans, publishers, library and information professionals, and other stakeholders to discuss how emerging technologies and other innovations in doctoral training may shape the Ph.D. dissertation of the future. More information is here. On other fronts, the Educopia Institute received a two-year Institute of Museum and Library Sciences (IMLS) grant to study the management of supplemental data for ETDs. A number of institutions, as well as regional associations, have initiated 3-Minute Thesis® (3MT) competitions. And, in June 2015, the Council of Graduate Schools hosted a webinar regarding launching a 3MT competition at your University. The ProQuest ETD Administrator and the Vireo: ETD Submission and Management System appear to be widely used in the USA for graduate school administration of ETDs. Both systems are upgraded regularly. Recent Pro-Quest releases have resulted in a simplified login, accessibility improvements, pdf conversion improvements, delayed release lift dates, etc. Additional information can be found at http://www.etdadmin.com/cgi-bin/main/notifications. Vireo 3.0 was released in March 2015, with enhanced support for ORCID, emailing ETD stakeholders, accessibility improvements, etc. Information about the release can be found at http://vireoetd.org/vireo/. Both systems will hold Users Group meetings at the USETDA 2015 Conference. The US ETD Association (USETDA) Board members include: John Hagen (Renaissance Scholarly Communications), Laura Hammons (Texas A&M University Office of Graduate and Professional Studies), Stacy Wallace (U of Florida Graduate School), Lou Haines (Miami University), Matthew Mariner (University of Colorado Denver), and Sally Evans (George Mason University). Ex-officio board members include Angie McCutcheon (Ohio U Graduate School) and Bobby Parker (U of Florida Libraries). The number of formal ETD Associations in the USA stands at four: California, Florida, Ohio, and Texas, with no changes over the past year. Both Ohio and Texas (jointly with the USETDA Region 3) held annual meetings in Spring 2015.
